CALIFORNIA, PART 4. THE LONE PINE FILM HISTORY MUSEUM AND A TRIVIA TEST.

2-26-2015

Today we took in the Lone Pine Film History Museum. We spent a very interesting couple hours in there.

02-P1000928

Let’s start this off with a test. The answers will be at the end.
I had a toy gun like this when I was a kid.

1) What was the name of the show where this sawed off Winchester rifle was used?
2) What was the actor’s name?
3) What was the character name?

35-P1010125

4) Who was the actor that used a Winchester rifle with an enlarged lever?

36-P1010128

I am going to have to apologize for not getting a picture of the actor/character who had the most series episodes and movies filmed here. And that would be William Boyd of Hopalong Cassidy fame. How I missed him I cannot figure out.

Randolph Scott was #2 in the number of films made here.

04-P1000933

There were many silent movies made here. The first documented movie was made in 1920 called “The Round-up” staring Fatty Arbuckle.

09-P1000969

10-P1000974

Westerns were made her by the dozens.

11-P1000987

Glenn Ford is one of my favorite cowboy actors.

12-P1010003

13-P1010005

14-P1010006

15-P1010009

16-P1010014

This is a example of their having to build buildings on site for the movie: sometimes a whole city. Of course, they would have to tear them down afterwards.

17-P1010020

18-P1010021

19-P1010029

Of course we all remember Audie Murphy.

20-P1010031

21-P1010032

22-P1010035

Then there was “The Lone Ranger” riding through these hills for many years.

27-P1010085

28-P1010086

29-P1010087

And, of course, the singing cowboys.

30-P1010106

1-P1000945

31-P1010107

06-P1000938

32-P1010108

05-P1000935

33-P1010109

34-P1010111

There also have been a number of films done here after the westerns ran their course.

08-P1000955

24-P1010067

25-P1010068

26-P1010076

23-P1010066

03-P1000929

If you are ever in the area, it is a museum worth visiting.

Oh, I almost forgot the answers!
1) Wanted: Dead or Alive.
2) Steve McQueen.
3) Josh Randall
4) Now this is a trick question as many of you probably said Chuck Connors of the Rifleman TV show, but the lever is “too” small. It’s John Wayne. He had the lever made larger to accommodate his large hands and Winchester later made models with the enlarged lever.

We left Lone Pine on the 27th headed back to Phoenix. We were told about a good place fore breakfast in Lone Pine, so we stopped at the ….

It was very good. It’s located one block south and a half block west of the stop light next to the laundry. The painting show some of the named rock formations located nearby.

Until next time,

Dave and Sandy

Good test, I thought I was so smart, I got them all wrong.

Now this is bad, you suggested this post Dave for a ride. I took the test again and still got them all wrong. Worst part I didn't realize I had read it until I seen my old comment. What does that tell you?
