Leaving Lake Havasu City And First Day In Tucson, AZ.

2-22-12 to 2-15-12

When we left Death Valley to head for Lake Havasu City, AZ. We drove south through the Mohave National Preserve.

The road was pretty good until we got to the preserve.

Well, we are back in Arizona and will be here until we head back home in April.

This sign took us by surprise. We did not remember that Arizona was the 48th state admitted to the United States.

The reason we stopped in Lake Havasu City was to visit some friends whom we met when they were camp hosts during the summer at Lebanon Hills Campground in Apple Valley, MN. In the winter months they would come out here and host at the State Park Campground in Lake Havasu City. They found that they liked the area so much that they are building a home here for the winter months and will still go back to Apple Valley and camp host there.

We had a wonderful lunch with Scott and Judy at their favorite Mexican restaurant.
Thanks Scott and Judy for spending some time with us and showing us around.

After lunch Scott and Judy took us up a canyon to see an area where they usually see Big Horn Sheep. But, alas either our eyes weren’t good enough or the sheep were doing a good job of hiding. Even without seeing sheep during the ride out and back it was a nice trip. After the ride they took us to see their new house which is under construction. We didn’t take any pictures, but it looks like it’s going to be a beautiful home.

The next morning we headed out for Tucson to visit some classmates and do some more sightseeing. This is part of the reservoir just north of the Parker Dam on the Colorado River.

This is the area just below the dam looking over to the California side.

This picture is for our friends who come to Quartzsite for the “Big Tent” event in January. It looks pretty quiet at the Silver Buckle Saloon when they are not serving free breakfast and lunches put on by LaMesa RV.

The white shapes you see below the mountains are campers at Picacho State Park. We were going to stay there for the night before going on to Tucson but the campground was full. So we had to stay at a commercial park just down the road.

In the morning we still got to see a great view of Picacho Peak as the sun was rising. If you are here in March and there have been some good rains, this area is just covered with orange and yellow poppies.

In the afternoon we had lunch with my friend and classmate, Lucille, and her husband, Jose. Lucille and I were born on the same day in the St Cloud, MN hospital. What was amazing is that our parents did not know each other at the time. They met later in St Cloud and both of our parents ended up moving to Staples before we started school. Lucille and I have been friends all of our lives.

Until next time,

Dave and Sandy
