We are spending a week on the east side of Phoenix(Apache Junction) in Lost Dutchman State Park.
This is looking at the Superstition Mountains from our campsite.
This is how the Superstition Mountains look at midday.
We think they look so much more magnificent at sunset.
They look much more mysterious as the sun is just starting to rise above them.
Sandy took this great looking picture. I like the way the flower stems look in the back ground. They remind me of ice crystals. I guess I should mention that Sandy is taking about 99% of the pictures on our trip.
One morning there was a guided bird walk in the park. Here is Bab’s who, in spite of the large group, was very informative and knowledgeable of the birds in the area. With the clamor from a group this large it was difficult to get real close to the birds.
This is a Bendire’s Thrasher perched on some bat houses.
This is a Phainopepla waiting for a bug or moth to fly by for him to snatch. Binoculars provided a closer look of the birds as they caught insects in the air. The Phainopepla is sometimes called a black Cardinal because of the crest on it’s head.
We spotted several hummingbirds while in the park. It’s hard to get a good picture of a hummingbird because they don’t sit still very long, nor do they like anyone getting too close.
Parked across the street from us was this restored Chevy pickup that was towing an old restored Airstream trailer. Notice the exotic birds to the left--- a hard to find species called “Plastic Pink Flamingo”.
Then there was this home built trailer down the road from us.
This last picture is for our friends, Pat and John, back home. Now this is an antenna that Erick should have for his pickup. Also notice the sign above the cab.
Until next time,
Dave and Sandy
